This book explores the history of Lithuania’s Jewish community, from its vibrant life in the late 19th century to its tragic destruction in the Holocaust, when 96% of the Jewish population was murdered. It examines the factors that led many Jews to emigrate, their process of choosing new homes, and how they adapted their Lithuanian Jewish traditions to thrive in new countries.
The book also investigates the fate of those who remained, through World War I and the interwar period, while exploring how modern Lithuanian society has grappled with the legacy of the Holocaust
