Exploring the Jewish world map:
Graduate meetup on digital tools and methods
The digital turn and the spatial turn in the humanities opened venues that intersect, enrich and problematize scholarship of historical perceptions of place and space. This meeting complements the preceding conference “Global Geography in Jewish Writing and Experience”.
We invite graduate students to participate in an intensive hybrid meeting focused on analyzing Jewish conceptions and representations of geography throughout history. Participants will be invited to shortly present their studies and methodologies. Basic concepts and approaches will be presented: knowledge extraction, annotation, matching and mapping, that can assist exploration and analysis of how Jewish actors and communities understood and represented geographical knowledge from antiquity to modernity.

Sept. 3 2025, 16:00 – 18:00 at the Open University of Israel campus at Haifa's port and online.
To apply:
Open to graduate students whose research intersects with Jewish studies, geography or geographic and spatial history. Participants are encouraged to attend the preceding conference sessions for contextual background. Digital literacy is welcome but not a requirement.
Please submit a brief (250-word) statement explaining your research interests related to the Jewish world map and how you hope digital humanities approaches might enhance your work.
