“Engaging the History of Technology: Bridging Disciplines and Perspectives for Global Challenges”
The 53rd Annual Meeting of the International Committee for the History of Technology (ICOHTEC) will take place in Alexandroupolis, Greece, from 8–11 October 2026. Hosted by Democritus University of Thrace in collaboration with the Laboratory of Technologies, Research & Applications in Education and the Ethnological Museum of Thrace, the conference brings together researchers from around the world to explore the role of technology in shaping human societies.
This year’s theme, “Engaging the History of Technology. Bridging Disciplines and Perspectives for Global Challenges” invites critical reflection on how technological histories intersect with today’s global challenges — from climate change and environmental injustice to political polarisation and artificial intelligence. By bridging methodologies, disciplines, and perspectives, the conference aims to highlight how understanding technological pasts is essential for navigating contemporary issues.
