Tenure-Track Position in Religions and Cultures – Chair in Jewish Studies
The Department of Religions and Cultures invites applications for a scholar specializing in the study of modern and contemporary Judaism in North America. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The ideal candidate will be engaged with innovative research in Jewish Studies both in terms of the objects of their research and the theoretical lenses they employ. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate a serious commitment to cutting-edge methodological approaches and themes, including but not limited to: the study of gender and sexuality, feminist and queer theory, ethnography and lived religion, popular culture, and materiality and material culture. We would be particularly interested if the candidate also works on immigration, disabilities studies, race, or Jews of color. We seek a candidate with a demonstrated or potential for excellence in teaching, and the ability to recruit and mentor students at the MA and PhD levels.
The successful candidate will also occupy the position of Director of the Concordia Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies. In that position, the successful candidate will oversee the operations and the development of the Institute which serves as a bridge between the University and the community.
