An evening on the occasion of the publication of Dror Wahrman, The Throne of the Great Mogul in Dresden: The Ultimate Artwork of the Baroque (Yale University Press)
The book is about one of the most extraordinary works of decorative art in early modern Europe, the Throne of the Great Mogul. Created in Dresden in the early eighteenth century, this is an almost infinitely elaborate multi-piece, gold-silver-enamel-and-gemstones miniature of the court of the Indian mogul Aurangzeb during his birthday celebrations.
Three lectures by international scholars will elaborate on the early modern world of global objects and materials.
