The Value of Elder Care, a research project funded by the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF) and directed by Dr. Shiri Regev-Messalem at the Bar Ilan Faculty of Law, invites candidates from a variety of disciplines to submit their applications to become a part of the project. We are looking for:
- Two post-doctoral fellows ( approx. $30,000 per year, for up to 2 years)
The project entails a socio-legal investigation of the way people evaluate paid live-in care work and justify their view of the appropriate monetary value of the job in comparison to other jobs. By using both qualitative and experiments the study aims to explore the mechanisms constructing the monetary value of paid live-in care in Israel. The project aims to investigate the relations between the value of elder care and perceptions regarding old age, care work, family’s responsibility, women, migrant workers, and the law. Understanding these mechanisms will enable us to better understand the underlying issues shaping one of the most pressing and growing needs of society: providing good quality paid care for the elderly.
We call for post-doctoral researchers, who are interested in exploring the many facets of elder care, to join us in this endeavour.
Applicants should have knowledge and experience in relevant fields of research (e.g., law, sociology, anthropology, gender), experience in experimental methodology, and the ability and desire to work as part of a scholarly community and a research team. Fellows will be required to take partial to full residence in Israel for the duration of the fellowship.
Key selection criteria for the post-doc positions are analytical skills, methodological abilities, and the capacity for team-work as well as independent research. Successful applicants will be expected to take part (50% of their time) in an existing ongoing research project led by the Dr. Regev-Messalem and Dr. Tami Kricheli-Katz.

- Fellowship starting date: October 2018. There is some flexibility for a slightly earlier or later starting date.
- Fellowship period is flexible and ranges from one year to a maximum of two years (ending October 2020).
- Fellowship rates are determined according to Bar Ilan (BIU) regulations.
