Job Opportunity: Arabic Language Instructor
The Department of Near Eastern Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, Cornell University, seeks a dynamic Arabic language professional to join its team of Arabic instructors for a fulltime position as Lecturer of Arabic beginning January 1, 2019. This is a full-time renewable appointment contingent upon a successful review, the continued needs of the department, and availability of funding. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester. Requirements are: 1. Master’s degree or equivalent in Arabic language, literature, linguistics, or language pedagogy; 2. Native or near native fluency in Arabic: oral fluency in spoken Arabic, and written fluency in Modern Standard Arabic; 3. Proficiency in spoken and written English; 4. Recognition of colloquial Arabic as a legitimate linguistic form, and willingness to teach colloquial Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic in the same course; 5. Willingness to work as a member of a small team of language instructors; 6. Familiarity with and commitment to innovative methods of language instruction.
