Psychology and Music – Interdisciplinary Encounters
We are pleased to announce the first international conference, Psychology and Music – Interdisciplinary Encounters, which will be held from 24 – 26th October 2019 at the University of Arts in Belgrade.
A keen interest in research and the application of scholarly knowledge in the field of psychology of music has blossomed in Serbia from 1980s onwards. It started at the Department of Psychology and Institute for Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade and evolved through the founding of the Section for Psychology of Music within the Serbian Psychological Society in 1996. Psychology of music reached its full development after 2006 at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. The work of a comparatively small number of colleagues had resulted in books and articles, research projects, as well as the development of a strong network of psychological services in specialized music schools in Serbia. Hence, the inaugural conference Psychology and Music – Interdisciplinary Encounterscomes as the next step. It is initiated with the encouragement and support of the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music (ESCOM).
The conference aims to bring together the diverse research endeavors of individuals and institutions in the interdisciplinary field of psychology and music, who work in Serbia, Western Balkan region and European countries, in order to provide a setting in which they can make their work visible to each other and to a wider interested audience.
The tasks of the conference:
- to foster interdisciplinary empirical and theoretical research and knowledge exchange in the field of psychology and music and related scientific and humanistic disciplines;
- to encourage the practical applications of academic knowledge, primarily in the field of music education, performance and wellbeing of musicians;
- to create possibilities for international encounters and strengthen networks and collaborations between researchers in different geographic areas;
- to bring together experienced scholars and early-career researchers, psychologists, musicians with different profiles and representatives of related scientific and applied disciplines.
