Climate has always been considered one of the many factors that led to major changes. Historical, economic, and cultural events have been linked to climate change. In my talk, I would like to consider climate from a different perspective, one that studies human reaction to climate and examines how climate affected material culture. The question I would like to discuss is how did past societies cope with climate change, and specifically the climate event that occurred around 1250 BCE. This will be done by examining changes in patterns of use and consumption of storage vessels. First, I will present these changes in three sites, Tel Qashish, Yoqne’am, and Beth-Shean. This will be followed by a more in-depth examination of storage assemblages from Hazor, one of the largest and most extensively excavated and published sites in the southern Levant. Due to this, we have a variety of contexts where storage vessels were found and we are able to examine changes within these contexts. Lastly, the results of these studies will be contextualized in their historical and environmental background.
מאז ומתמיד נחשב האקלים לאחד הגורמים הרבים שהובילו לשינויים גדולים. אירועים היסטוריים, כלכליים ותרבותיים נקשרו לשינויי אקלים. בהרצאתי, ברצוני להתייחס לאקלים מנקודת מבט אחרת, כזו העוסקת בחקר התגובה האנושית לאקלים והבוחנת כיצד השפיע האקלים על תרבות חומרית. השאלה בה ברצוני לדון היא כיצד התמודדו חברות עבר עם שינויי אקלים, ובאופן ספציפי אירוע האקלים שהתרחש בסביבות 1250 לפנה”ס. זה ייעשה על ידי בחינת שינויים בדפוסי השימוש והצריכה של כלי האחסון. ראשית, אציג את השינויים הללו בשלושה אתרים, תל קשיש, יקנעם ובית שאן. לאחר מכן אבחון בחינה מעמיקה יותר את מכלול האחסון מחצור, אחד האתרים הגדולים והחפורים ביותר שפורסמו בדרום לבנט. מסיבה זו, יש לנו מגוון של הקשרים בהם נמצאו כלי אחסון ואנחנו יכולים לבדוק שינויים בהקשרים אלה. לבסוף, תוצאות מחקרים אלה יתוארו בהקשר של הרקע ההיסטורי והסביבה שלהם.
