Job Posting: Jewish History in the Americas, 1500-1800
The Department of History at Cornell University, in conjunction with the Jewish Studies Program, seeks applicants for the Slovin Assistant Professorship in Jewish history. Candidates are expected to have expertise in the history of the Atlantic world between the fifteenth and the eighteenth centuries, with a particular focus on Jewish migration and settlement in the Americas. We welcome all areas of specialization, including religion, race and ethnicity, imperialism and colonialism, commercial exchange and trade, historical geography, diaspora and cultural studies, transnationalism, gender and sexuality, and politics and citizenship. Teaching responsibilities will consist of two courses per semester, including one undergraduate course covering the broad sweep of American- Jewish history, 1500-present, highlighting the history of the Jews in North America.
