הציבור מוזמן לסמינר המחקר של מכון כהן ביום ב, 23.11, בשעה 18:00, שיתקיים בזום (פרטים למטה).
Ori Belkind (Cohn Institute) will discuss with
Tim Maudlin (Department of Philosophy, NYU) his work on:
Credence and Chance Without Numbers (and with the Euclidean Property)
Various “paradoxes” concerning rational credence and objective chance have led philosophers to suggest that credence and chances should be represented by hyperreal or surreal numbers rather than real numbers. But the proper conclusion from those cases is both much simpler and more radical: credence and chance ought not to be represented by numbers at all. I will discuss the proper structure of credence and chance, and explain how to implement results such as Bayes’ Theorem without the use of number fields.
