Call for Papers: European Summer School on the (Global) Cold War

The partner institutions of the European Summer School on Cold War History and the ColdWar Research Network in the Netherlands are pleased to announce that the 10th edition of the Summer School will be hosted by the Global Cold War Group at Utrecht University on 1-3 September 2021. This will be a fully virtual event. Sessions will mostly be held between 10AM and 6PM, Central European Time (GMT+1).
The Summer School is an excellent opportunity for PhD candidates and early career researchers to present papers, get to know one another, and discuss their work with peersand experts in the field. We anticipate a vibrant and exciting event, highlighting the latest research directions and new ideas that shape the field of Cold War History. The Summer School will consist of events such as workshops, small-group sessions, presentations, panelsessions, a documentary screening, and a virtual pub quiz.
We encourage submissions on any aspect of the (Global) Cold War, broadly defined. Of particular interest are papers that draw on newly available primary sources, employnontraditional methodologies, and highlight perspectives of previously under studied actors from (Eastern) Europe, the Soviet Union, and the Global South. Researchers that focus on race, gender, transnational networks, reconciliation, the politics of memory, theenvironment, development, and ideas are actively encouraged to apply.
