On 9 February, the European Commission published the Joint Communication on “Renewed Partnership with the Southern Neighbourhood – A New Agenda for the Mediterranean”, in which it suggests ways to advance ties between the EU and its southern neighbours, from Morocco to Syria, including Israel and its neighbours.
The program was adopted by the EU Foreign Affairs Council in April, with the aim of promoting a region of peace, stability and prosperity, following a decade of political and economic regional turbulences, and in light of new challenges and opportunities brought by Covid-19, climate change and Israel-Arab normalization agreements.
The event will examine the possible implications of the updated EU policy for Israel and its regional relations, and will feature diplomats and experts from both Israel and the EU.

ב-9 בפברואר פרסמה הנציבות האירופית תכנית בשם “שותפות מחודשת עם השכנות מדרום: סדר יום חדש לאגן הים התיכון“, בו היא מציעה דרכים לקידום היחסים בין האיחוד האירופי לשכנותיו בדרום ומזרח אגן הים התיכון – ממרוקו עד סוריה, כולל ישראל ושכנותיה. התכנית אומצה על ידי מועצת האיחוד האירופי בחודש אפריל, במטרה לקדם מרחב אזורי של שלום, יציבות ושגשוג. זאת, לאחר עשור של תהפוכות פוליטיות וכלכליות באזור, ועל רקע אתגרים והזדמנויות שנוצרו לאחרונה בעקבות מגפת הקורונה, משבר האקלים והסכמי הנורמליזציה בין ישראל לכמה ממדינות ערב. הכנס יבחן את המשמעויות האפשריות של המדיניות האירופית המעודכנת עבור ישראל ויחסיה האזוריים.
