the Eighth Polish - Israeli Young Scholars Workshop on the History and Culture of Polish Jews
Since the first workshop in Kibbutz Ma’ale HaHamishah in 2008, the Biennial Poland-Israel Workshop on the History and Culture of Polish Jews has succeeded in creating a supportive academic community that offers a platform for discussion and scholarly exchange for the next generation of scholars of Polish Jewry. Through these and related frameworks, including a workshop in Kraków in 2010, in Sdot-Yam in 2012, in Wrocław – Wielka Lipa in 2014, in Warsaw in 2016, in Zichron Ya’akov in 2018, and in Kraków in 2022, doctoral students and recent PhDs have had the opportunity to present their work, receive critical feedback from other scholars and meet colleagues from other centers.
The eighth Biennial Poland-Israel Workshop on the History and Culture of Polish Jews will be hosted and organized by the Haifa Interdisciplinary Unit for Polish Studies (HIUPS, University of Haifa) in cooperation with other academic institutions in Israel (the Goldstein-Goren Diaspora Research Center and the Institute for the History of Polish Jewry and Israel-Poland Relations at Tel Aviv University, Bar Ilan University, Open University of Israel, Hebrew University in Jerusalem) and in Poland (Jagiellonian University in Kraków, University of Wrocław, University of Warsaw), and with the support of the Historical Society of Israel and the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv.
The workshop will take place at Givat Haviva Campus from June 24 to June 26, 2024, and will include presentations by doctoral students and recent post-doctoral scholars, responses by renowned senior scholars, discussions, keynote lectures, and cultural activities. The organizers of the workshops will cover the costs of the participants’ accommodation in Givat Haviva during the workshops.
