קול קורא // פרקים לספר: נאמנות לשונית בישראל (יאיר אור, ברנרד ספולסקי ואילנה שוהמי) לא צויין דדליין

בימים אלו אנו מתכננים ספר ערוך העתיד לתאר את מצבן העכשווי של השפות הרבות המדוברות בישראל. הספר מושתת על מחקריהם החלוציים של יהושע פישמן וחוקרים אחרים על המצב בארצות הברית לפני כשישים שנה, ובא לעדכן את ספרם של ספולסקי ושוהמי The Languages of Israel מ-1999. לשם כך אנו מעוניינים לקבל הצעות לפרקים מבוססי נתונים ומחקר אמפירי, העוסקים בשפות ובקהילות דוברים בישראל כיום. הספר מבקש לתאר מקרים ספציפיים הממחישים את התפשטות העברית כשפה דומיננטית ואת המאמצים של קהילות לשמר או להחיות את שפות ארץ המוצא או המורשת שלהן, כחלק מן הניסיון לשנות את מגמתם של תהליכים שינוי לשוניים. אנו מבקשים ללמוד גם על השינויים שחלו בצורות שונות של ערבית (ילידית או מיובאת), את האתגר הנובע ממעמדן של האנגלית הגלובלית ושל שפות בין-לאומיות אחרות ואת גורלן של השפות המדוברות על ידי מהגרי עבודה, מבקשי מקלט ופליטים. כל אחד מפרקי הספר יכול לעסוק בשפה ספציפית, באשכול של צורות שפתיות, בקהילת דוברים או בנושא רלוונטי כגון קבוצות אינטרנט, עיתונים או חינוך לא-פורמלי. הוצאה לאור בינלאומית גדולה כבר הביעה עניין בפרסום הספר. על פי התכנון, הספר יתפרסם הן במהדורה אנגלית והן במהדורה עברית, ולפיכך נוכל לקבל כתבי יד באחת משתי השפות. אם באפשרותך וביכולתך לתרום לפרסום זה, נודה לך אם תכתוב/תכתבי לנו ותסביר/י לנו בקצרה מה הרקע שלך, איזה פרק באפשרותך לתרום, וכמה זמן יידרש לך להערכתך כדי לתרום חיבור בן כ-7,000 מילים.

We are planning an edited book describing and accounting for the current state of the many languages of Israel. Modeled on the pioneering study by Joshua Fishman and others of the United States situation 60 years ago and updating Spolsky and Shohamy’s 1999 book The Languages of Israel, we are seeking evidence-based chapters dealing with languages and speech communities in present-day Israel. The book will describe specific cases that cast light on the spread of Hebrew as a dominant language and the efforts of others to reverse language shift and maintain or revive heritage and immigrant languages. We also want to learn about the changes in indigenous and imported Arabic varieties, the challenge of global English and other international languages, and the fate of the languages of migrant workers, asylum seekers and refugees. Chapters may focus on a specific language or cluster of language varieties, a speech community, or a relevant topic such as internet groups, newspapers, or informal education. A major international publisher has expressed interest in the volume. We plan that the collection will be published in both English and Hebrew and will accept manuscripts in either. If you are able and willing to contribute, please write to us explaining your background, a brief sketch of what you propose to cover, and how long you would like to be able to submit a 7,000 word piece.
