בוריס שץ: מסופיה לירושלים ומעבר מאה שנה לרומן האוטופי “ירושלם הבנויה”
במוזיאון ישראל ב– 9 בדצמבר 2018
חייו, הגותו ויצירתו של אבי האמנות הישראלית, בוריס שץ, שלובים בהיסטוריה היהודית של סוף המאה ה– 19 ותחילת המאה ה– 20 ובתולדות הציונות, והשפעתו על ראשית התרבות בישראל ייחודית ומשמעותית. הוא יסד ב– 1906 את “בצלאל, בית מדרש לאמנות ומלאכות אמנות” שנעשה ברבות הימים ל”בצלאל, אקדמיה לאמנות ועיצוב” ואת בית–הנכות הלאומי שמוזיאון ישראל צמח ממנו. הוא חלם על יצירת מרכז רוחני בירושלים, שיהיה לעריסתה של אמנות עברית, יקבץ תלמידים מן העליות הציוניות ומקהילות היהודים הקרובות והרחוקות וימשוך אליו יוצרים מן העולם כולו. והוא ראה במרכז הזה בית–מקדש שלישי, כור של אנרגיה רוחנית, שיפיץ את ערכיו לעם היהודי ויעניק השראה לגיבושה של זהות לאומית מחודשת.
מארגני הכנס יקדמו בברכה הצעות להרצאות במגוון תחומי ידע ומחקר על נושאים הקשורים למפעלו ולמורשתו של בוריס שץ: כיוצר צעיר במזרח אירופה ובפריז; שנותיו בבולגריה ) 1906-1894 ( ותפקידו המרכזי בתהליך ייסוד האקדמיה הלאומית לאמנות בסופיה; הביוגרפיה האינטלקטואלית של שץ ותרומתו האמנותית; תולדות האקדמיה “בצלאל” מהיווסדה ועד לימינו; חזון ירושלים בעתיד וכיוצא באלה.
ההרצאות (בעברית או באנגלית) מיועדות לקהל מגוון ורחב של שוחרי אמנות והיסטוריה, סטודנטים וחוקרים. משך כל הרצאה 20 דקות המבקשים להרצות מוזמנים לשלוח את הצעותיהם (300-150 מילים) עד 23 בספטמבר 2018 לכתובת:Schatz.cfp@gmail.com ולצרף אליהם קורות–חיים

International Conference Dec 9th 2018 Israel Museum Jerusalem
The Israel-Bulgaria Friendship Association, in collaboration with the Schatz House (Jerusalem), the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design (Jerusalem), the National Academy of Art (Sofia), the Israel Museum Jerusalem (Jerusalem) and The National Library of Israel (Jerusalem) are organizing an International Confrence, in Jerusalem, on Sunday, December 9, 2018. Sessions will take place in the Auditorium of the Israel Museum Jerusalem.

The life, thought, and work of Boris Schatz – artist, visionary, and man of action – are inseparably intertwined with Jewish and Zionist cultural history of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. In fact, Schatz had a unique influence on the emergence of Israeli culture. He founded the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts, opened in Jerusalem in 1906 and later to become the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, as well as the Bezalel National Museum, forerunner of the Israel Museum, and thus set a formal starting point for Israeli art. He dreamed of nothing less than creating a center in Jerusalem for the birth of a new Hebraic art, a center that would gather students from near and far, from the budding Zionist immigration and from the Jewish Diaspora, and would attract artists from all over the world. He saw this center, with a great museum as one of its pillars, as a contemporary Third Temple – a powerhouse of spiritual energy that would radiate its ideals to the entire Jewish people and inspire a renewed national identity. The conference welcomes contributions focused on the following topics related to Boris Schatz’s activity and legacy:
1. The years of Schatz in Bulgaria (1894-1906) where Schatz among other activities had
a major role in founding the National Academy of Art, Sofia.
2. Boris Schatz intellectual biography and artistic contribution.
3. The history of the Bezalel school in Jerusalem from its foundation to the present.
4. Schatz legacy in the 21st millennium and a vision for Jerusalem in the future.

The papers and lectures will be delivered in Hebrew or English.
Lectures should not exceed 20 minutes, in order to allow 10 minutes for the discussion. The scientific committee expect to receive papers from a variety of fields in a multidisciplinary perspective.
Presentations that incorporate visual/audio components are strongly encouraged.
Those selected to participate will be expected to make original and academic oral presentations of their mat`erial at the Symposium in a scholarly format but also in a manner suited to an audience composed of the general public, undergraduate students, and other scholars.
The authors are kindly asked to submit their proposals (150-300 word abstract) along with a short Curriculum Vitae in English or in Hebrew before September 23rd , 2018, only via e-mail, to the following address: schatz.cfp@gmail.com responses will be announced by mid October 2018
