Chapters for an edited book on Jewish family life: An international comparative perspective
Each chapter will focus on Jewish family life in a particular country or region of the world. Ideally, each chapter will include some or all of the following kinds of topics, surveying the extant research and/or reporting on new research:
- a demographic and socio-economic description of Jewish families, including transnationality if appropriate
- family roles, including division of economic labor
- marriage formation, cohabitation
- marital status; divorce and blended families
- same-sex couples/parents
- adoption
- interfaith and interracial families
- grandparenting patterns
- families and health issues; special needs children/adults; senior-care
- family engagement in Jewish life; families and Jewish institutions/organizations/services
- denominational variation in family life
- variations within the country/region
- change over time
It is understood that not every region—and not every contributor– will have all of this information, but most regions/contributors will have at least some of it. Additional topics may be suggested for inclusion.
Abstracts of 250-500 words should be submitted by March 1, 2019. Acceptance will be notified by April 1, 2019. If accepted, full chapters (approximately 7,000-10,000 words, though this is negotiable) would be submitted by September 1, 2019.
Any proposal will be considered. All inquiries should be addressed to:
