Jewish Heritage in Slovenia
The Center for Jewish Art (CJA) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Department of Art History in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor, and the France Stele Institute of Art History at the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, invite submissions for an international conference “Jewish Heritage in Slovenia,” which will take place at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, on 18-19 September 2019.
In September 2018 a two-year bilateral Slovene-Israeli research project entitled: “Digitization of Slovenian Heritage” was launched, involving in-depth research, documentation and digitization of tangible and intangible Jewish heritage of Slovenia. It aims to create a special section of Slovenian Jewish heritage within the Bezalel Narkiss Index of Jewish Art.
The conference, which is organized in the framework of the bilateral project, seeks to address the multifaceted history and culture of Jews on the territory of today’s Slovenia from an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective. We are particularly interested in Jewish heritage and its contextualization in various theoretical, spatial and chronological frameworks, within a w
ider context of the Balkans and Central Europe.
The language of the conference will be English. The presentation of each paper will last 20 minutes with 10 minutes for discussion.
Please submit a 300-word abstract and a short CV to cja@mail.huji.ac.il no later than 25th April 2019. Applicants will be notified by 20th May whether their paper was accepted.
The organizers will cover the participants’ accommodation in Jerusalem. Additionally, a limited number of grants covering travel expenses will be provided on special request.
