The Minerva Center for the Rule of Law under Extreme Conditions invites you for a seminar lecture with Dr. Reuven (Ruvi) Ziegler, University of Reading, School of Law, on: Uncertain futures: EU citizenship rights in the shadow of Brexit.
Wednesday, April 10, 2019 between 10:15-11:45
Abstract :
If Britain leaves the European Union, over 60 million British citizens face being stripped of their EU citizenship rights and 3.8 million EU 27 citizens resident in Britain face an uncertain future in the UK in terms of the continued exercise of their EU citizenship rights. A relatively under-explored areas concerns the impact of Brexit on electoral rights of citizens of other EU member states in the UK and those of UK citizens residing elsewhere in the EU. Pertinent questions pertain to the maintenance of electoral rights in local government elections and elections to devolved parliaments and assemblies in the UK and, correspondingly, of UK citizens elsewhere in the EU; and the effect on the prospective elections for the European Parliament, most notably in Northern Ireland.
