About the Conference

Join us for the eighteenth annual Teaching Matters conference, an interdisciplinary teaching and learning Higher Ed conference hosted by Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia.  Individual Presentations, Panel Sessions, Workshops, Roundtable Discussions, and Posters focus on innovative and creative pedagogical methods, issues surrounding teaching and learning, and educational theories. The conference is open to all who have a passion for teaching and learning, with conference events designed so that educators can have meaningful conversations and share approaches for ensuring student success.

About this year’s theme                  

As conscientious educators, we put student success above all else, working diligently to be engaging teachers, but we cannot do so from a place of exhaustion, anger, or boredom.  This year’s conference asks the question “How do we stay on the cutting edge of scholarship in teaching and learning and in our individual disciplines and not find ourselves on the edge of a breakdown?”  Session presenters will offer strategies and approaches for cultivating professional growth while ensuring life balance, for creating inclusive spaces for our students while also navigating the waters of campus politics and culture, for keeping teaching fresh while juggling service responsibilities.  How do you keep the balance?

Potential topics could include but are not limited to the following:

  • Balancing Academic Freedom and Institutional Voice
  • Reflecting and Recharging
