Full Professorship for Bible and Its Jewish Exegesis University of Potsdam
The unique School of Jewish Theology, created in 2013 as part of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Potsdam, invites applications for the following professorship, with the appointment planned for October 1, 2020: Full Professorship for Bible and Its Jewish Exegesis
The successful candidate will represent the entire field of the Hebrew Bible in teaching and research. This requires engaging the text, tradition, and exegesis of the Hebrew Bible from a theological perspective. The professor will place the Bible in the context of its historical, social, religious, and cultural origins and environments, taking traditional Jewish Bible receptions into account as complementing historical-critical approaches.
The professor’s responsibilities include teaching in the various degree programs in Jewish theology (among them an English-language MA) as well as the supervision of doctoral dissertations and habilitation theses (post-doctoral dissertation). Responsibilities also include active participation in the University’s self-governing administrative bodies. The professor will cooperate with the departments of Jewish and Religious Studies, Life Orientation-Ethics-Religion (L-E-R), the forum “Religion in Context”, as well as with the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg. Moreover, cooperation with our program in Biblical Archaeology is desirable.
